Pratima 23rd June 2022

jai shri Krishna, jai Mataji respected family and friends, I would like to share my memories of my Mama. My strongest memories of my Mama are from my early days when we first arrived from Kenya to settle here in the Uk. For a brief time on arriving in the UK we stayed with him and Mami in their rented rooms at the other end of Byron Avenue. It was a squeeze, our family of four plus Mama, Mami and Vasantididi but never once did he ever show his displeasure or give the slightest hint that we were inconveniencing him. Rather, he welcomed us with open arms, made us feel welcome and at home. What little he had, he shared with us freely, openly and generously. One of my fondest memories of my Mama is from that first summer in the UK. Mama taking a week off from work to show his newly arrived immigrant niece aged seven all the sights and sounds of London. That Summer of 1975, he and Mami took me all around London, I stayed with them and every day we would go off to visit the major landmarks. He insisted I should see them all - Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square to feed the pigeons, Changing of the Guard, Big Ben, Madam Tussauds, Tower of London, and so many others. He introduced me to chips from the chippy, and told me they tasted great bcos they were wrapped in newspaper, and the newspaper ink added to the flavour, and the six year old me naively believed him! Summer 1975 will be one I will carry with me always, thanks to these memories with Mama. Later he carried some burdens which troubled him and brought him some strife but he never stopped being my humble, kind and gentle Mama. We are all grateful and indebted to our wonderful Mami for the love and devotion she showed him, thank you Mami for all the care you gave him. We can never thank you enough. I pray now that my Mama is at peace as is his soul. Mama thank you for all you did for us all, turning the young girl who arrived in the UK into a lifelong Londoner, you will be missed and I will remember you with much love and affection. Sleep well Mama, we wish you farewell and a peaceful onward journey. Jai Shri Krishna
